New Flyer Industries Inc. says it has won a contract from the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) to supply up to 305 heavy-duty compressed natural gas (CNG) buses.
The deal includes a firm order for 35 40-foot XN40 and 20 60-foot XN60 Xcelsior CNG buses, with an option for another 150 XN40 and 100 XN60 CNG buses over the next five years.
As New Flyer explains, the RTC is both the transit authority and the transportation-planning agency for Southern Nevada and, specifically, Las Vegas. Its mandate includes identification of transportation challenges and implementation of short- and long-term resolutions while simultaneously promoting sustainability, air quality improvement, enhanced mobility and increased quality of life in the region.
Since 1991, New Flyer has delivered 332 buses to RTC, whose current transit fleet consists of approximately 650 buses.
“We are fortunate to have repeat business from prominent customers like RTC,” says Paul Soubry, New Flyer's president and CEO. “RTC is one of the leading transit agencies in the United States who is committed to quality and styling, performance and reliability, and to minimizing the environmental footprint. New Flyer is thrilled to have our buses in service in such a high-profile community,”
