IMPCO Confirms Production Start for GM Bi-Fuel Compressed Natural Gas Trucks

IMPCO Automotive says it is partnering with GM on the production of the OEM bi-fuel compressed natural gas (CNG) crew-cab configuration of model-year 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD and GMC Sierra 2500 HD pickup trucks.

The company notes that its proprietary CNG bi-fuel system will be integrated into the trucks – which can be ordered immediately from dealerships – at its production facility in Union City, Ind. GM and IMPCO have targeted ship-to-commerce notification for mid-2013, which will initiate IMPCO's shipping of the crew cab trucks in the third and fourth quarters of 2013.

IMPCO installs the single-tank bi-fuel CNG system using GM's OEM processes and standards. That system adheres to GM's quality, durability and safety testing requirements, and the completed CNG trucks are delivered to a dealer or an up-fitter to undergo fleets' modification preferences.

Marco Seimandi, automotive executive sales and marketing director for IMPCO parent company Fuel Systems Solutions, says the CNG crew cabs will likely add 400 to 500 units to its work with GM.
