Hyundai Tucson Fuel Cell Vehicle Sets Land Speed Record

Hyundai says its Tucson Fuel Cell has set the land speed record for a production hydrogen-powered SUV at the Soggy Dry Lake Bed of the California desert, with a top speed of 94.6 mph. According to the company, the vehicle has a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency-estimated driving range of 265 miles.

Hyundai notes that, since delivering the first Tucson Fuel Cell in June 2014, there are now nearly 100 of the SUVs roaming the streets and highways of Southern California. The company says Southern California currently has a large concentration of hydrogen refueling stations, with nearly 50 forecast to be in operation in 2016.
