The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has awarded 25 grants totaling $7.7 million through the second round of the state's Natural Gas Energy Development program to support the deployment of heavy-duty natural gas vehicles (NGVs).

Vehicles that received grant funds are dedicated or bi-fuel compressed natural gas (CNG) or liquefied natural gas (LNG) models weighing 14,000 pounds or more. The grant requests were up to 50% of the incremental purchase or retrofit cost per vehicle, or a maximum total of $25,000 per vehicle.

Grantees include Beemac Trucking LLC (20 CNG tractors, $500,000), Giant Food Stores LLC (five LNG trucks, $125,000), Penske Truck Leasing (23 CNG vehicles, $500,000), Aqua Pennsylvania (nine CNG dump trucks, $225,000), Constructural Dynamics (20 CNG concrete mixer trucks, $500,000) and several others.

The first round of the Natural Gas Energy Development program awarded $6.3 million to 19 organizations. The third and final round is scheduled to open this summer.
