Georgia City Adding Its First Light-Duty CNG Pickups

The city council in Covington, Ga., has approved the acquisition of five bi-fuel compressed natural gas (CNG) RAM pickup trucks from Chrysler Group through Mississippi-based dealership Ginn Motor Co.

According to a report from The Covington News, the city will pay $35,250 for each vehicle – a figure that includes a discount ‘because the trucks are part of a sale that fell through’ for Memphis, Miss., the report says.

Covington will have its own CNG refueling station online by April 2014. The city had previously budgeted $500,000 for the purchase of natural gas vehicles, and at least four additional trucks are currently being eyed for retirement and subsequent replacement with NGVs.
