Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA), the public transit provider in Pinellas County, Fla., is slated to add seven new electric-hybrid buses to its fleet.
According to a Tampa Bay Newspapers report, the agency’s board of directors recently approved the $4.9 million purchase of the new Gillig buses in order to replace older models.
The report says nearly one-third of PSTA’s current fleet consists of hybrid buses, but some stakeholders and the public are pushing for the agency to deploy fully electric buses in the future – an option the board plans to consider, in addition to reviewing the possibility of other alternative fuel vehicles for replacement buses.
