EQT Corp., an energy company focused primarily on natural gas, says its EQT Foundation has awarded more than $900,000 in grants to five Pittsburgh-area nonprofit organizations to support the deployment of natural gas vehicles (NGVs).
The funds have been targeted at various entities, including the Carnegie Science Center – which will purchase one bi-fuel gasoline/compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicle for use in an EQT-sponsored 'Science on the Road’ – and Manchester Bidwell Corp., which is buying two CNG passenger vans.
Last July, EQT opened a public-access CNG station in Pittsburgh's Strip District, and the company says it is converting its own fleet and that of its distribution subsidiary, Equitable Gas Co., to natural gas. Also, in September, EQT's Equitrans subsidiary received approval from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to construct a new natural gas pipeline in Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
