Consumers Energy has launched its SmartStreet program, which will involve a ‘smart makeover’ for the East Hills neighborhood of Grand Rapids, the utility says.
As a part of the program, smart meters will be installed at approximately 60 East Hills homes and businesses in 2011. Those consumers will participate in energy-performance surveys and will be given access to personalized Web portals and in-home displays that are designed to help track energy usage.
Consumers Energy adds that SmartStreet will also feature demonstrations of other products and services, such as solar panels and charging stations for plug-in electric vehicles.
