Less-than-truckload (LTL) carrier Con-way Freight says it has received the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) SmartWay Transport Partnership verification for the seventh consecutive year. The partnership is a voluntary program that provides incentives in order to drive transportation companies to better environmental performance in freight operations.

Con-way Freight, a subsidiary of Con-way Inc., has been a SmartWay Transport Partner since 2005 and is also a recipient of a SmartWay Excellence Award. The company provides service through a network of 425 operating locations in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico.

‘Participating in the SmartWay program provides clear value in that it encourages measurable, data-driven practices to improve environmental performance,’ says Greg Lehmkuhl, president of Con-way Freight. ‘It is recognized by our customers as a benchmark, and it's consistent with our efforts through Lean to continuously improve fuel economy and reduce our carbon footprint.’
