Honda and natural gas refueling station giant Clean Energy Fuels Corp. are partnering to give buyers of new Civic natural gas vehicles (NGVs) debit cards pre-loaded with $3,000 that can be used to purchase compressed natural gas (CNG) at Clean Energy's facilities.
The companies note that in order to receive a fuel card, a new 2012 Civic NGV must be purchased from a participating Honda dealer on or before Jan. 2, 2013. The vehicle, which is manufactured in Greensburg, Ind., is currently the only dedicated CNG passenger car offered by an OEM.
The 2012 Civic NGV has posted record sales since going on sale last October, according to Honda. Year-over-year sales volume has increased 22% percent, and the 31 mpg NGV is now available at 199 certified Honda dealers in 36 states.
