The city council in Santa Monica, Calif., has approved a new one-year contract with Agility Fuel Systems for the refurbishment and repair of the compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanks on city transit buses.

Additionally, the council approved the purchase of four CNG-powered Ford Transit Connect vehicles for use in the city's Animal Control Unit; two heavy-duty CNG-powered aerial trucks that will work on Santa Monica's traffic signals; and one additional Honda Civic Natural Gas for the municipal fleet.

The city's transit fleet consists of 100 buses that run on CNG and 99 that use LNG, according to coverage from the Santa Monica Lookout. The contract with Agility Fuel Systems will include ongoing maintenance of the natural gas storage systems and inspections to ensure that the tanks meet compliance standards.

The city's contract with the company includes two additional one-year renewal options.
