Canadian American Transportation Inc. (C.A.T. Inc.), a heavy-duty carrier based in Coteau-du-Lac, Quebec, is leasing 100 compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles from Ryder System Inc. – the largest such lease that Ryder has inked to date, and its first in Canada.
C.A.T. provides cross-border transportation services to companies in the automotive, food, electronics and other industries. The company, which has been leasing trucks from Ryder for eight years, is shifting nearly a third of its 325-truck fleet to CNG.
‘C.A.T.'s natural gas fleet program will enable us to be extremely successful in supporting our customers' sustainability efforts,’ says Daniel Goyette, the company's president. ‘We are excited to work with Ryder to transfer our diesel fleet to a CNG fleet.’
C.A.T. will use its new CNG-powered sleeper tractors in its delivery fleet traveling from Montreal to Laredo, Texas. Ryder will provide maintenance for the natural gas vehicles at its Montreal service facility, which is currently being upgraded to comply with natural gas standards.
