Azure Dynamics Corp., a developer of hybrid electric and electric components and powertrain systems for light- and medium-duty commercial vehicles, has inked a letter of intent whereby Norway-based Ford dealership RohneSelmer AS will import and distribute up to 400 Ford Transit Connect electric vans annually.
The letter of intent ‘sets in motion a collaborative effort to reach a definitive distribution agreement within the coming weeks to further develop the business in the Nordic region,’ the companies say. RohneSelmer and Azure's partnered in March to complete the sale of 58 Transit Connect electric vans. Another order of 100 vans followed in August.
To create the electric models, Azure integrates its Force Drive electric powertrain into the Transit Connect. Utilizing a lithium-ion battery from Johnson Controls, the vehicle can achieve a range of 50 to 80 miles on a single charge and can be fully recharged in about eight hours using standard European 220 V outlets.
