AT&T says it has deployed half of the planned 15,000 alternative fuel vehicles in its corporate fleet, delivering its 7,500th vehicle – a compressed natural gas (CNG) Chevy Express van – to an AT&T U-verse tech based in Kansas.
The company's goal is to put 15,000 alt-fuel vehicles into its fleet by the end of 2018. In fact, part of that goal is to deploy a total of up to 8,000 CNG vehicles alone by the end of March 2014.
AT&T estimates that this initiative, overall, could represent an investment of more than $500 million.
Among the 7,500 alternative fuel vehicles that AT&T has already placed in its operations are 5,474 CNG, 1,996 hybrid electric, 27 extended-range electric and three all-electric vehicles. Beyond the first quarter of 2014, AT&T will primarily deploy alternative-fuel passenger vehicles , such as hybrid-electric and plug-in extended-range electric vehicles.
