Big Blue Bus (BBB), a municipal bus operator serving Santa Monica and the Los Angeles area in California, has announced it will receive $6.9 million in Federal Transit Administration (FTA) funding to help upgrade BBB's all-green fleet, as well as for bus stop improvements.
BBB says it was awarded $5.9 million to purchase nine replacement compressed natural gas (CNG)-powered buses. The new vehicles will replace buses that have been on the road for over 12 years. The transit agency says the new buses will provide a more comfortable commute experience for customers and reduce vehicle maintenance costs.
According to its website, BBB operates a fleet of about 200 buses, and its entire fleet runs on alternative fuels, including CNG and liquefied natural gas.
