Natural gas company Alagasco is working with the City Action Partnership (CAP) in Birmingham, Ala., to gather real-world operating and fuel-cost data from a 2011 Ford Transit that runs on compressed natural gas (CNG).
‘Having this information helps other businesses and fleet owners see the real benefits of natural gas vehicles,’ says Ed Smith, Alagasco's general manager of customer service.
‘We've already seen a significant savings in fuel costs,’ adds Teresa Thorne, CAP's executive director, noting that the Birmingham-Jefferson County Transit Authority already operates 50 buses, 10 trolleys and 30 para-transit vehicles powered by CNG.
