BYD Co. Ltd. will be supplying 35 of its all-electric heavy-duty buses to Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam as a part of the Sustainable Bus System of Schiphol (SUBSS) initiative.
The buses, which are scheduled to be in service by next July, will be used to shuttle passengers between airport terminals and aircraft.
‘Winning this contract was a vital step in our strategy to deliver emissions-free public-transport vehicles,’ says Isbrand Ho, BYD Europe's managing director. ‘We won this contract on the strength of our proven technology and ability to support their 10-year operating contract.’
BYD's 40-foot electric bus has a range of 155 miles on a full charge, which takes about five hours to achieve. The vehicles feature BYD's iron-phosphate battery system, in-wheel hub motors and regenerative braking technology.
