A-1 Alternative Fuel Systems Readies Indiana Plant for Natural Gas, Propane Conversions

A-1 Alternative Fuel Systems, a company that specializes in aftermarket alternative fuel vehicle conversions, is adding a new location in Elkhart, Ind., in order to better serve fleet customers in the Midwest and on the East Coast.

Headquartered in Fresno, Calif., A-1 Alternative Fuel Systems – an installer in Ford Motor Co.'s QVM Alternative Fuel Program – has been performing alt-fuel conversions for nearly two decades. Last year, the company installed natural gas systems on more than 400 vehicles at its Fresno facility, and it anticipates matching that volume in Elkhart.

A-1 Alternative Fuel Systems is currently focusing its business largely on the shuttle bus segment, and it has the capability to handle compressed natural gas (CNG), liquefied natural gas (LNG) and propane autogas conversions on most EPA- and CARB-certified vehicles

The company says it plans on ‘cross-engineering’ platforms including the Ford E-450, F-550/650 and F-59 and GM G4500 with body builders and upfitters in the Midwest.
