Ford says it is planning to introduce to fleet customers a diesel-powered version of its Transit cargo/passenger van, with production of the new offering scheduled to begin at the company's Kansas City plant sometime next year.
The Transit diesel and 3.5 L EcoBoost V6 gasoline options will be at least 25% more fuel-efficient than Ford's E Series vans.
‘With fleet operators facing skyrocketing fuel prices and constant pressure to reduce costs, Ford continues to expand its range,’ says Kevin Koswick, director, North American fleet, lease and remarketing operations for Ford. ‘By offering multiple options to help solve these challenges, Ford is giving fleet customers true power of choice in finding solutions that best meet their specific needs.’
To complement these offerings, Ford is also rolling out a new tool called the Vehicle Emissions and Fuel Cost Calculator, which allows fleet managers to examine vehicle options using data related to location, traffic conditions and fuel type. The tool is used in conjunction with the support of a Ford fleet representative to identify customized scenarios.
