Electric Vehicles International (EVI) has secured an additional 100 units of UQM Technologies Inc.'s PowerPhase HD Select 200 systems, which EVI plans to integrate into a fleet of all-electric delivery vans for UPS.
UQM's platform, which is designed specifically for use in commercial vehicles, includes a 200 kW electric motor/generator that delivers more than 260 hp and 660 ft-lbs of torque, as well as the associated controllers.
UPS says it intends to put these 100 all-electric vehicles into service in California early this year to replace diesel trucks, eliminating the consumption of more than 126,000 gallons of fuel a year.
