Indianapolis-based wholesale food distributor Delco Foods has announced plans to convert its entire fleet of trucks to natural gas and will establish a compressed natural gas (CNG) station in partnership with U.S. Oil to support the new fleet.
Right now, Delco's fleet numbers about 20 vehicles, and these trucks make an average of 1,200 customer deliveries weekly.
‘With CNG technology evolving and continually improving, we knew it was the right time to make the change,’ says Bill Dollard, Delco's vice president of operations. ‘As our delivery trucks convert over, we plan to stay on the cutting edge of CNG technology.’
Penske, which provides full-service truck leases to Delco, is upgrading the applicable maintenance facility in order to accommodate maintenance and repairs on CNG-powered vehicles.
Delco and U.S. Oil will build a GAIN Clean Fuel CNG station near Delco's distribution center in Indianapolis, at 8775 Zionsville Rd. The ground-breaking is scheduled for October 1, in concert with the kickoff of the company's natural gas vehicle conversions, and completion is expected in December.
