XL Hybrids Inc. says the California Air Resources Board (CARB) has approved the company's aftermarket hybrid electric vehicle conversion platform for model year 2012-2014 General Motors vans.
XL Hybrids notes that the approval covers gasoline-powered Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana 2500 and 3500 vans upfitted with the XL3 hybrid-electric drive system. The XL3 is a regenerative braking system that requires no special fueling, plug-ins or maintenance and has been shown to increase miles driven per gallon by approximately 25% in real-world fleet vehicle driving.
In connection with the CARB approval, XL Hybrids has signed an installation and distribution agreement with Emissions Retrofit Group (ERG) to handle vehicle conversions in California. ERG has facilities in Sacramento, Oakland, Redding and Ontario.
XL Hybrids notes that an XL3 system installation takes less than a day.
