Westport, Shell Form LNG Supply-Chain Partnership

Westport Innovations Inc. has entered into an agreement with Shell to launch a co-marketing program in North America to consolidate value-chain components in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) vehicles space.

The partnership will involve bringing fuel supply, customer support and maintenance into a single package, the companies say. Under the terms of the agreement, Shell and Westport will leverage their market positions – LNG production and distribution, and LNG vehicle systems and technology, respectively – to deliver an integrated commercial solution. The companies will also collaborate to develop industry standards for LNG as a new transportation fuel.

‘As a result of this initiative, we believe the use of natural gas as a fuel for transportation will accelerate,’ says David Demers, CEO of Westport Innovations. ‘The North American launch is an important first step with Shell, and we look forward to the continued proliferation of our advanced technology products and integration services.’
