Westport says the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has certified a number of its natural gas vehicle conversions for 2015 Ford models.
The Westport WiNG Power System is now approved for model-year 2015 E-450s and F-450s, F-550s, F-650s and F-59s that feature the 6.8-liter V-10 engine. Ford factory-installs a gaseous-prep package on these platforms that enables the engine to run on compressed natural gas (CNG), and Westport completes the vehicle conversions through the Ford Qualified Vehicle Modifier (QVM) program. The QVM designation ensures that fleets can order and take delivery of their vehicles through standard dealer channels, with the converted NGVs maintaining the OEM's warranty.
The company now has nine model-year 2015 vehicles that have achieved EPA certification. Westport adds that California Air Resources Board (CARB) certification for the E-450, F-450, F-550, F-650 and F-59 is coming soon.
