China-based Geely Group, the owner of Volvo Cars and other automotive brands, has acquired Emerald Automotive, a company focused on designing and manufacturing electric vehicles for fleet applications.

Emerald Automotive's flagship platform, the t-001, is a hybrid-electric van that features approximately 65 miles of all-electric driving range, and 400 miles of total range. The van is rated for a 3,000-pound payload.

‘This is a fantastic opportunity which will allow us to expand our current vehicle development work in line with Geely Group's global vision,’ says Andy Tempest, CEO of Emerald Automotive.

Emerald is based in the U.K. and also has a facility in Missouri.
