U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Examining the Prospects for LNG, CNG Power

0

Engineering firm Bristol Harbor Group Inc. (BHGI) will be looking into the potential for liquefied natural gas (LNG) and/or compressed natural gas (CNG) to power vessels for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE).

Working with the USACE Marine Design Center (MDC), BHGI will assess a subset of the USACE fleet to determine which assets could be suitable for a switch to CNG or LNG. BHGI will investigate actual vessel technology, as well as LNG and CNG fuel availability.

Once the analysis stage is complete, USACE will pinpoint a single vessel for further investigation and then design power system modifications. USACE will then decide whether or not to move forward with physical modifications.

BHGI anticipates that its work related to this task will be completed by June 2014.
