Efficient Drivetrains Inc. (EDI) says it is using UQM Technologies Inc.'s PowerPhase platform as the key electric-drive component in its new Parallel-Series-Electric powertrain system.
EDI recently completed the initial testing of the system, and the company says several truck manufacturers and a bus manufacturer are in discussion to potentially adopt the technology. The Parallel-Series-Electric system is designed to fit in the space required by a traditional internal combustion engine and transmission, both in front-wheel-drive and rear-wheel-drive applications.
‘The EDI powertrain is a unique approach to electrifying vehicles, and our range of electric motors and controllers adds to the scalability of the system,’ says Eric R. Ridenour, president and CEO of UQM.
UQM's systems are currently being used in various fleet-vehicle projects with companies such as Audi, Rolls-Royce, Hino, Proterra and Electric Vehicles International.
