Underwriters Laboratories Developing Safety Standard For Electric Vehicle Cord Sets

0

Safety testing and certification specialist Underwriters Laboratories (UL) says it is building a new set of requirements for indoor/outdoor cord sets for electric vehicles, complementing its standards work related to charging stations, connectors, motors and batteries.

UL says product safety testing will include stationary and portable cord sets, including the attached plug, flexible power cord, personnel protection circuitry, electric vehicle cable and vehicle connector. The testing will cover factors such as overload protection, shock and flammability.

The future standard, UL Subject 2594, will comply with National Electric Code article 625.
