Smith Electric Vehicles Corp. says its all-electric Edison and Newton trucks have reached a notable milestone: 5 million miles of operation.
The two medium-duty commercial truck models – 700 of them, to date – have been in use among a number of fleets, ranging from parcel delivery to goods transportation. These vehicles have collectively saved approximately 700,000 gallons of fuel, the company says.
‘With these important milestones achieved, Smith will be positioned to move fully into commercial-scale manufacturing and enable electric fleet transformations around the world,’ comments Bryan Hansel, CEO of Smith Electric.
The company notes that ‘short-haul urban transport is the current greatest market opportunity for fleet electrification’ and is, thus, Smith Electric's target. The firm has manufacturing facilities in Kansas City, Mo., and Newcastle, U.K.
