The Palmer Truck Group, a large heavy-duty vehicle company with dealerships in Indiana and Ohio, is getting the word out about its complement of used Class 8 trucks that run on compressed natural gas (CNG).

The vehicles – a total of 38 model-year 2012 Kenworth T440 tractors – were previously on lease to Fair Oaks Dairy, which began using natural gas vehicles for regional hauls a few years ago.

The T440s are all equipped with the 8.9-liter Cummins Westport ISL G engine (in the 320 hp configuration) and 80 DGE of on-board CNG storage. The trucks also feature Alison automatic six-speed 3000HS transmissions and air-ride suspensions.

‘On average, these Kenworth T440 CNG tractors have a 300- to 350-mile operating range,’ says Palmer Trucks' Kurt Palmer. ‘The designed application for the nine-liter is 66,000 GVW.’

The company notes that the price of these units starts at $83,500.
