Ryder System Inc. says it is deploying more than 1,000 new automatic transmission trucks to its North American rental fleet in order to help customers improve fuel efficiency and driver retention.
The company says the vehicles meet increasing demand from customers looking to improve fleet performance and driver job satisfaction. According to Ryder, the automated transmission technology gives customers the performance they need, while optimizing fuel economy. The easy-to-operate transmissions also improve the experience for drivers, by providing smoother gear shifts, advanced safety features, and a variety of driving modes to accommodate different terrain and applications.
“With this investment in automatic transmission vehicles, we are helping customers address critical business priorities – fleet efficiency, driver retention, and recruiting,” says Richard Mohr, Vice President and Global Product Manager, Ryder Rental Operations. “This is one more way we are demonstrating our commitment to maximizing the performance of our customers' fleets, while providing the flexibility and convenience of a rental solution.”
Notably, Ryder was one of 14 companies included in the North American Council for Freight Efficiency's latest Annual Fleet Fuel study, which found the fleets achieved millions of dollars in fuel savings last year by adopting a variety of fuel efficiency technologies.
