The Renewable and Sustainable Energy Institute (RASEI), a collaboration between the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and the University of Colorado at Boulder, is partnering with Toyota Motor Sales USA Inc. to study the effects plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHVs) can have on electricity grids.
As a part of the program, Toyota will supply 18 Prius PHVs that will be circulated in three-month cycles among 108 randomly selected Boulder households that have volunteered to be a part of smart grid pilot tests. RASEI and Toyota, with the participation of Xcel Energy, will gather data on vehicle performance and electricity usage, as well as how households interact with vehicle feedback through smart grid technology.
A blog on the field study will be hosted HERE.
