Penske’s Roadside Crew Gets Up to Speed on Natural Gas Vehicles

A number of Penske Truck Leasing's 24/7 roadside assistance team recently received extensive training on the compressed natural gas (CNG)-powered Freightliner tractors that Penske offers to its customers.

During the training sessions, experts explained the CNG tractor's features, provided safety tips, reviewed common maintenance issues and discussed natural gas refueling issues.

‘It's really important for our associates to see and experience the CNG vehicle firsthand to understand the variations,’ says Gregg Mangione, vice president of maintenance services for Penske Truck Leasing. ‘The main difference between the two tractors is the fuel delivery system and storage tanks.’

This summer, the company placed orders for about 100 natural gas vehicles – mainly Freightliner Cascadia tractors that are equipped with Cummins Westport's 11.9-liter ISX12 G natural gas engines. These NGVs will be available to full-service truck leasing and commercial truck rental customers at locations across the U.S.

Penske anticipates ordering an additional 100 natural gas tractors by the end of 2013.
