Organizations to Develop Heavy-Duty Hybrid Electric Vehicles

0

A U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) initiative will see the deployment of about 120 heavy-duty plug-in hybrid electric vehicles at various publicly owned utilities and municipal electric companies.

The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) and California's South Coast Air Quality Management District will be working on the $45 million project with Odyne Systems LLC and Johnson Controls. Odyne will supply its hybrid power systems, and Johnson Controls is providing its lithium-ion battery technology.

The batteries for these trucks will be made at Johnson Controls' manufacturing facility in Holland, Mich.
