Omnitek Engineering Corp. has formed an alliance with LKQ Corp., a supplier of auto parts and accessories with operations in North America, Europe, Australia and Taiwan, to produce repowered natural gas engines built on the Mercedes OM904 and OM906 platforms.
The companies will work on these drop-in engines at LKQ's facility in Monterrey, Mexico.
‘We are currently in the technical phase of the project and anticipate ramping up within a few months, with a goal of commencing full production of natural gas engines in 2015,’ says Scott Miller, vice president of remanufacturing at LKQ. ‘Mexico represents a tremendous opportunity, and our capacity in Monterrey is more than sufficient to address the anticipated demand from large fleet customers for Omnitek's conversion technology and drop-in engines.’
Omnitek develops and markets proprietary diesel-to-natural gas engine conversion systems and complementary products, including new natural gas engines that utilize the company's technology.
‘This alliance will enable us to address large markets in Mexico and Latin America, and we look forward to working with LKQ to offer additional engine models in the future,’ adds Werner Funk, president and CEO of Omnitek.
