Ohio County Approves Funding for CNG Trucks

Commissioners of Trumbull County, Ohio, have approved the purchase of four new compressed natural gas (CNG) trucks for the Trumbull County Engineer’s Office.

The Board of Commissioners stated that 80% of the cost will be covered by the Federal Transportation Congestion Mitigation/Air Quality Grant; thus, the county will only need to pay 20% of the total cost, at approximately $200,000.

According to a recent report from WKBN, the county intends to eventually switch over its entire fleet, not only because CNG is less expensive, but also because cleaner burning fuels enable the vehicle engines to last longer.

The report asserts that these new CNG trucks will replace four older, diesel trucks, which are to be phased out as part of the grant.

The county expects the trucks to arrive this fall.
