Nissan has announced that it intends to begin production of its e-NV200 electric van next year in Barcelona. The vehicle is based on the company's award winning NV200 platform.

The company says about 100 million euros will be invested in its Barcelona facility and its suppliers to support production of the e-NV200, which will be aimed primarily at the commercial fleet market.

‘The e-NV200 will make a significant contribution to our aim of becoming the world's largest low-carbon vehicle manufacturer by 2016,’ says Frank Torres, vice president of Nissan's Spanish manufacturing operations.

The current NV200 van has already sold around 100,000 units and has been chosen as the ‘Taxi of Tomorrow’ for New York City.
