New Flyer Industries Canada ULC, the Canadian subsidiary of NFI Group Inc., has been awarded a contract to provide 47 compressed natural gas (CNG) and 11 diesel-electric transit buses for the South Coast British Columbia Transportation Authority (TransLink).

The order will support Coast Mountain Bus Co. (CMBC), TransLink’s largest operating company, in meeting increased demand; the company saw a 5.8% increase in passenger journeys in 2017.

“New Flyer is pleased to support TransLink by providing a low-emission bus that meets TransLink’s economic, environmental and social requirements,” comments Jennifer McNeill, vice president of sales and business development at New Flyer. “TransLink enables citizens in the Metro Vancouver region to make sustainable transportation choices, and we are thrilled to support the expansion of sustainable transit with Canadian innovation on the road in BC.”

The heavy-duty CNG and hybrid buses are 40 feet and 60 feet, respectively.
