AMP Holding Inc. says a major transportation company has signed a purchase agreement to acquire 18 all-electric Workhorse E-100 walk-in vans to be deployed in the Houston/Galveston, Texas, area.

The Workhorse E-100 is designed and built to meet the transportation company's daily duty cycle while delivering a zero-emission driving experience and eliminating the consumption of more than 650,000 gallons of diesel fuel over the vehicle's projected life. In addition, AMP's proprietary onboard telematics capture thousands of data points to measure vehicle performance and efficiency.

‘Our Workhorse E-100 truck is purpose-built to transform the package delivery vehicle market,’ says Steve Burns, CEO of AMP Holding. ‘Built on our new, narrow track W88 chassis, the trucks come with a 100 kWh lithium battery pack featuring Panasonic 18650 cells that provide power to a 2200 nm (268 bhp) permanent magnet motor powerful enough to eliminate the need for a transmission.’

Funded by a grant from the DOE National Energy Technology Laboratory, the Houston-Galveston Area Council has partnered with the Center for Technology and the Environment with the objective of accelerating the introduction and deployment of electric vehicles into the cargo transportation sector.
