The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) recently announced a new initiative that will see the federal government add up to 10,000 hybrid-electric vehicles to its fleet.
Through the initiative, the GSA will fund the total incremental cost to replace eligible vehicles with new hybrid-electric sedans. The federal agencies that participate will consolidate vehicles into the inventory of GSA Fleet, the GSA's fleet management group.
‘At a time when government needs to make every tax dollar count, GSA is committed to creating more energy-efficiency and cost-saving opportunities, like the fleet consolidation program, that make government smarter and reduce our environmental footprint,’ says GSA Acting Administrator Dan Tangherlini.
The organization notes that a new fleet of 10,000 hybrid EVs will reduce fuel consumption by about 1 million gallons annually.
