EPA Bestows SmartWay Excellence Awards

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has named the honorees of its 2014 SmartWay Excellence Awards, which acknowledge freight industry companies that ‘model environmental leadership and innovation.’

The agency notes that the award winners rank in the top 5% of SmartWay program participants in fuel-efficiency improvements, greenhouse-gas emissions reductions and overall air pollution reductions. Shipping and logistics companies are recognized for ‘superior efficiency and additional actions to reduce freight emissions through effective collaboration, advanced technology and operational practices, a robust system for validating and reporting their SmartWay data, and communications and public outreach.’

This year's awardees are as follows:

  • Johns Manville
  • Kimberly-Clark
  • SC Johnson and Son
  • Nordstrom
  • Expeditors International of Washington
  • Menlo Logistics
  • Ryder Supply Chain Solutions
