Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA), a medium- and heavy-duty truck manufacturer for Freightliner, Western Star and Thomas Built Buses, says it has delivered its 1,000th natural gas truck – and claims it is the first commercial vehicle manufacturer to achieve such a milestone. The 1,000th truck – the first Freightliner 114SD compressed natural gas (CNG) truck with a Cummins Westport ISL G engine – was manufactured at DTNA's plant in Mt. Holly, N.C., and delivered to customer Ryder System Inc. The Westport ISL G is an 8.9 liter, factory-produced natural gas engine.
DTNA notes that it also manufactured its 1,000th hybrid vehicle earlier this year.
