Motive Power & Equipment Solutions Inc. (MP&ES), a provider of new and remanufactured locomotives, has introduced its Greenville natural gas/diesel dual-fuel locomotive for switcher and short-line operations.
MP&ES says it is currently working with partner OptiFuel Systems LLC to conduct ‘final power system testing and calibration, along with full emissions certification.’ The company expects to begin taking orders for the Greenville MP1500 (a 1,500 hp variation) later this year, other models to follow.
‘Natural gas offers our customers an opportunity to greatly reduce their operating fuel costs while cutting emissions at the same time,’ says MP&ES CEO and president David Wilkerson. ‘The availability of low-cost, U.S.-sourced natural gas provides an unprecedented opportunity for green locomotives.’
The Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad Co. is currently considering MP&ES among a ‘limited number of qualified vendors’ to convert more than 30 of its locomotives to natural gas.
