UQM Technologies Inc. is working with Kinetics Drive Solutions Inc. to develop integrated electric motor and multi-speed transmission systems for commercial vehicle platforms.
These systems will feature UQM's PowerPhase HD electric motors and controllers combined with Kinetics NexDrive transmissions. The PowerPhase HD product line was developed specifically for commercial vehicles and includes various high-torque offerings. The flagship NexDrive EV3-850 transmission is a three-speed dual-clutch transmission designed for medium- and heavy-duty electric vehicle applications.
The companies say that a key advantage of the UQM/ Kinetics partnership will be that fleet customers and OEMs will be able to access a fully integrated and calibrated system that allows quicker speed-to-market and reduced development time and cost, as well as fewer engineering variables.
