BYD Co. Ltd. says its all-electric transit bus has achieved certification according to Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (CMVSS) parameters, allowing the alt-fuel vehicle to be sold to fleets and operated on Canadian roads.
BYD's 12-meter bus, which is now registered with federal agency Transport Canada, uses proprietary iron-phosphate batteries, in-wheel hub motors and regenerative braking technology. The bus can drive approximately 150 miles – or up to 30 hours in city traffic – on a single charge.
The company notes that its electric buses have racked up more than 12 million miles in revenue service in cities around the world.
