On Thursday, Bauer Compressors Inc. held a ground-breaking ceremony at its facilities in Norfolk, Va., where a significant expansion project is being pursued in order to accommodate growth in the company's North American compressor business. The German firm has maintained manufacturing operations in Norfolk since 1978.
Bauer is adding 12,800 square feet of offices, as well as 18,000 square feet of fabrication space and systems-assembly workspace upgrades. A new powder-coat paint line, grind and weld booths and robotic panel bender are also planned.
Additionally, the expanded facility will feature a testing and evaluation center to serve Bauer's product R&D and to enhance the company's reliability-testing capabilities.
