Hyundai says the first hydrogen-powered Tucson Fuel Cell crossover utility vehicles have hit U.S. shores, marking a major milestone for the alternative fuel vehicle sector.
These vehicles, which are mass-produced on Hyundai assembly lines overseas, will be offered for retail sale in the Southern California market within the next few weeks. Tustin Hyundai, Win Hyundai (Carson) and Hardin Hyundai (Anaheim) will be carrying the CUVs.
Lessees can acquire the Tucson Fuel Cell for $499 per month (36-month term; $2,999 down), including unlimited free hydrogen refueling and valet maintenance at no extra cost, according to the company.
‘Hydrogen-powered fuel cell vehicles represent the next generation of zero-emission electric vehicle technology,’ says Mike O'Brien, vice president, corporate and product planning, for Hyundai Motor America. ‘The range and refueling time of our Tucson Fuel Cell compare favorably with gasoline vehicles, making them a seamless transition from traditional gasoline-powered vehicles.’
Hyundai notes that availability of the Tucson Fuel Cell will expand to other U.S. regions as hydrogen refueling infrastructure grows.
