Natural gas and electric utility PECO has tapped Clean Energy Fuels Corp. to begin operating its existing network of compressed natural gas (CNG) refueling stations in greater Philadelphia.
PECO, the largest utility of its kind in Pennsylvania, currently has six CNG stations in Philadelphia and elsewhere in the southeastern portion of the state. As a part of the agreement, Clean Energy will continue uninterrupted fueling operations at all of the facilities while handling CNG equipment upgrades at each station.
PECO notes that it will remain the natural gas provider for the stations and continue to fuel its own fleet of natural gas vehicles at these locations. Clean Energy, however, will manage all new and existing retail sales and fleet accounts.
Fleets that have been using PECO facilities to access CNG include the Lower Merion School District, which has been deploying NGVs for nearly 20 years, and West Chester University.
