CNG America, a small private company that develops compressed natural gas (CNG) refueling infrastructure and facilities natural gas vehicle (NGV) conversions, recently joined with partner Sinclair Oil Corp./Bell Oil Co. to open Utah’s 41st public-access CNG station.
The facility is located at Bell’s Sinclair Truck Stop at 7100 Silver Creek Rd. in Park City, where Interstate 80 and U.S. Route 40 meet. According to company owner Kim Hugie, this is CNG America’s fifth natural gas station in the state, joining others in Salt Lake City, Lehi, Tremonton and Clearfield.
The company began construction on the Park City station this past fall, without the support of grant funds or other incentives, Hugie tells NGT News. The truck stop features traditional diesel fueling lanes for Class 8 vehicles, but the new CNG pumps are in front of the truck stop and convenience store, located with the retail gasoline pumps.
Equipment-wise, the lion’s share of CNG infrastructure was supplied by ANGI Energy Systems. There are two dual-hose CNG dispensers at the fuel islands, with three hoses operating at 3,600 psi and one at 3,000 psi. Questar owns the natural gas distribution network that is connected to the Park City site, but Hugie secures his natural gas supply through a fuel broker.
The retail price of CNG at the pumps is $1.63/GGE. Refuse and recycling company Republic Services, as well as the government NGV fleet of Summit County, will refuel in Park City.
For CNG America’s part, its next work will take place in Orem off Interstate 15, where the company is building a new CNG station. The engineering and related development activity has begun, and Hugie expects to break ground this spring.
We Really Need a CNG Station in either Kanab, UT or Page, AZ. The reason is that there is Absolutely No CNG Stations between Richfield, UT and Phoenix, AZ on the US 89 Highway. A distance of 492 miles. The distance between Richfield, UT and Kanab, UT is 145 Miles and it’s 220 Miles between Richfield and Page, AZ. The Logical reason for a CNG Station there to me is Obvious. Both cities are Gatway Cities. Gateway to Zions National Park, Bryce National Park, Both North and South Rims of the Grand Canyon, Lee’s Ferry, The Hourseshoe Bend, Cedar Breaks,… Read more »
