Audi, BMW, Daimler, Porsche, Volkswagen and Bosch have partnered with the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) to launch an informational campaign designed to inform U.S. fleets and consumers about new clean diesel products and trends.
The campaign – which carries the slogan ‘Clean Diesel. Clearly Better” – will publicize the advantages of modern diesel passenger vehicle technology, in terms of emissions, fuel consumption and performance. A website, clearlybetterdiesel.org, has been launched to complement the program, and the companies are seeking to ‘create a multi-brand information platform for clean diesels among the U.S. population.’
Today, the market share of diesels among all newly registered light vehicles in the U.S. is 2.6%. (In Western Europe, that figure is 55%.) Still, sales of diesel passenger cars from German manufacturers have more than doubled over the last three years, and approximately 69,600 diesels were sold this year in the U.S. through the end of September (compared to 30,600 in 2009).
